20. Festival of the Tooth (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka's Festival of the Tooth is dedicated to the sacred tooth relic which was brought from one of Buddha's followers from India in the 5th century BC.
19. Boryeong Mud Festival - 보령머드축제 (South Korea)
Mud is dug up from Boryeong and then dropped in Daecheon beach area. At any given moment, you can catch people flopping around the mud buck naked. The mud is rich in minerals, so what that means is that your wrinkly dink will be smooth for all to see. This festival has attracted more than 2 million visitors worldwide and speaking from personal experience, it is one hell of a good time. And to answer your question, yes, my dink was very smooth for a short period following the festival.
18. Oaxaca Radish Festival - Noche de Rabanos(Mexico)
The Spanish first brought radishes to Mexico in the 16th century and this festival celebrates this event by natives creating radish sculptures which include small animals and human figures. Or if the festival really gets out of hand, they may even carve the radish into other shapes, like a star, or Richard Gere's face. This is getting out of hand, someone tell Grandma to calm down.
17. Battle of Oranges (Italy)
A sloppy tradition that goes all the way back to the Middle Ages. When a not so loveable tyrant tried to rape a peasant commoner, she turned the tables and cut his fucking head off. Now, a celebration commemorates the day with a fun-filled food fight.
16. Cheung Chau’s Bun Festival - 長洲太平清醮 (Hong Kong)
The highlight of this festival is an enormous 60-foot bamboo tower covered with buns. Young men would climb the tower to get hold of the buns, because legend has it that higher ones return a better fortune. I journeyed to this festival and battled to the top of the tower, desiring the greatest of all fortunes. But it was not meant to be, as I fell 60-feet and shattered my pelvis. As I lay on the ground, bones protruding from my flesh, not one person helped me. I could feel my bone-marrow leaking onto the ground around me, and the only thing I could do was wriggle on the ground and eat my bun.
